Oliver! 1968

The elements of drama in Oliver Twist, are tools that create an enjoyable to watch but adds to the meaning of the narrative. Drama includes drama elements as building blocks that involves the dramatic expression of ideas, to a specific audience with a specific purpose through dramatic action based on real or imagined events. Drama film director, Carol Reed, structured the Charles Dickens-based musical Oliver! (1968) movie clip “Consider Yourself” used several drama elements to create a quality musical narrative.Characters, as active participants in the musical, refers to the personality of the character, while roles show the relationship dynamics between characters (REF). Oliver is the main character (protagonist), an orphaned and neglected boy, that faces the consequences of actions related to his quest to discover his true identity. Oliver finds himself in the city of London, and meets a boy pickpocket known as Artful Dodger, that invites him to live in London through the song, “Consider Yourself”. The intent of the song is to fundamentally welcome Oliver in a lyrical gift, establishing him as ‘one of the family’, and celebrate the camaraderie Dodger and the city of London offer. The lyrics further set up the role and relationship between Oliver and Dodger, using the pronoun “we” or Dodger’s exclusive “family”. London is depicted as a hospitable environment through the lyrics and choreography as the extended song-and-dance routine adds more “locals”, singing “whatever we’ve got we share”.
The celebration and welcoming are convincing as locals include dancing bobbies, wedding participants, vegetable carriers, ladies hanging clothes on a line, outdoor butchers chopping meat, construction workers laying bricks, delivery men taking the meet to customers, newsmen dancing, chimney sweeps popping out through open vents, men from the fish market and brewery concluding on a carousel adorned with Union Jacks. “Consider Yourself” creates the welcoming…

journey

“The Journey” is a poem written by Mary Oliver. It talks in symbolism and transforming into a new person and embarking on a new way to live our lives. The poem reflects on growing up, becoming our own person, and not having to worry about other people and what they think. It represents setting our minds to achieve a specific goal and not letting anyone tell us how to live our lives. It also talks of a “wild night” (Oliver line #20) of us trying to find ourselves and our own voices. The poem talks in symbols and a mood that sets the tone, and it is also a good poem to start junior year with.
The mood in this story is someone or something always trying to hold us back, “Mend my life!” (Oliver line #10) . It holds us back from taking the “journey” to become our own individuals. We need to find our selves. It speaks of society, “the voices around you” (Oliver line #3) how it can influence our choices by “shouting their bad advice,” (Oliver line #4-5), and telling what’s right and what’s wrong. When we stop letting the society we live in today influence our decisions, it is then when we can embark on our “journey” as individuals. The journey will not be that easy, there are obstacles to overcome, “..the road full of fallen branches and stones” (Oliver line #21-22). These obstacles are what’s going to make us stronger on the way to fulfill our journeys. The meaning of this poem is to follow our hearts. And to not let anyone or anything influence our decisions in order to grow into the person we’re supposed to be. This poem is a good way to start junior year because it’s the year were all growing up. When we make the jump into the real world. Our parents are no longer helping us make all the decisions in our lives, it is us rather, making them for ourselves. We’re upperclassmen now, we’re the big dogs picking on all the freshman, we’re driving, we’re not dependant on our parents as much anymore. We are maturing in every way, getting smarter, and…

Choosing between a Mac or PC is like selecting an apple or a slice of cake. Both items are appealing but one is a better choice. The Mac vs. PC debate has proven to be one the most controversial topics. Both electronic platforms offer their advantages and disadvantages, it’s important to understand those before you decide to make a purchase. Steve Jobs introduced the original Macintosh computer on January 10, 1984; since then the PC hasn’t been any competition. With so many computers on the market, making a decision on what to buy seems to become more challenging. However, a true computer guru will always choose an apple product!
No matter how you look at it, a Mac will cost more than buying a standard PC because of its quality. Although Apple offers an iMac that is slightly below $1,000, some will argue that the price is nearly double the cost of buying a PC. Unlike Apple, PC’s are built by dozens of manufacturers. Mac computers have better quality because Apple controls their own manufacturing (Mei, 2014). They can design the software’s architecture and have a limited number of hardware combinations. Additionally, they spend more money on quality components i.e. aluminum cases, etc (Mei, 2014).  Apple products have a life expectancy of at least 8-10 years (T, 2013). On the other hand, the life expectancy of a PC is between 4-6 years (T, 2013). It’s clear that Apple makes up for the cost by having its computers remain useful longer.
PCs are more at risk of viruses than Macs. Macs are very rarely prone to viruses, while battling these bugs is a challenge for PCs. PCs with Internet access are at a higher risk of being infected. Although some may beg to differ, ESET released the results of a study to address the awareness of cybercrime in the U.S. The study found that Macs are at a less risk of viruses than the PC (Mills, 2010). Unlike PC, Mac has built-in defenses to help keep users safe from malware without the hassle of constant alerts and sweeps…

The U.S. government’s expansive role in public policy is caught in a swirl of conflicting cross-currents. On the one hand, popular expectations about government’s responsibility to solve problems often exceed the capacity of state and local authorities to respond effectively. On the other hand, policies developed at the national level may not sufficiently reflect the great diversity of interests across the U.S. to be effective at the local level. Moreover, the search for effective policy is further complicated by theoretical debates about the constitutional framework of federalism, e.g., what limits on national power can be derived from the 10th Amendment
